Step out of your comfort zone, and have yourself an authentic Thai island adventure in Koh Mook. When booking an Island Hopping adventure to less westernized islands leave your airs and graces behind and embrace Thai culture on a tropical island.
Most of the Thai Islands have become too westernized, losing that Thai charm Koh Mook still has. Although there is one high-end resort, Koh Mook Sivalia Beach Resort, the rest of the island is far from the up-market accommodation.
Koh Mook is a smaller version of Koh Lanta, which is perfect as island-hopping from one authentic Thai island adventure to another is easily arranged. Find the links below for the speedboat transfers from Koh Lanta.
Koh Mook is an authentic Thai island that hasn’t been affected by tourism. The local people still live among the hotels and villages next to travelers.
Unlike most islands, the locals live in separate, set-back, up-and-down streets (soi means road) or in the hills. Therefore, you get a real sense of the Thai lifestyle on the small island of Koh Mook.
It can only be described as an authentic island with amazing beaches powdery white sand and real people.
An authentic Thai island adventure in Koh Mook begins here…
As you arrive at Koh Mook Pier, the lengthy pier will surprise you. This is where all the speedboats, ferries, and longtail boats depart and arrive. Whether arriving on the island or taking a tour, this is where it all happens.
Although the pier is long, do not worry; there are lots of unique Koh Mook taxis waiting to take you to any hotel.

In Koh Mook, there are no cars, only motorbikes and motorbike-side cars; these are the taxis. See the image below. Prices vary from 30 THB.

Recommended restaurants around Koh Mook
The island has a vast number of restaurants to visit; however, below are a few that we ate at and highly recommend.
My favorite, however, was The Tropical Koh Mook restaurant. Although it’s a resort, the setting and food are delicious and well presented.
You find The Tropical Koh Mook here on Google maps.
Alin Kitchen & Cafe makes the yummiest papaya seafood salad. Papaya salad is one of my favorite Thai dishes, and living in Thailand for many years, I have had a good papaya salad (Som Tam), and this was excellent.
You find Alin Kitchen & Cafe here on Google maps.
At PP Restaurant, we had only a snack; however, it is listed below for its location directly on the beach and beautiful view.

Koh Mook City Center Restaurant&Bar in the center is where everyone more or less congregates after sunset. It has a great vibe and a good variety of dishes and drinks.
You find Koh Mook City Center Restaurant&Bar here on Google maps.
Hilltop Restaurant has a very intensive menu, and the food is good; however, it can get very busy after sunset because it’s close to Farang / Charlies Beach.

Bars around Koh Mook
Mong Bar Koh Mook is most definitely the place to be until sunset. A fantastic vibe, whether you’re sitting in the var or lounging on the beach. A great vibe, a well-stocked western-style bar, and fantastic tunes.
You find Mong Bar Koh Mook here on Google maps.
The Koh Mook City Center Restaurant&Bar is the next place to head if you choose to continue eating and drinking.
You find Koh Mook City Center Restaurant&Bar here on Google maps.
Recommended Coffee Shop
Du lay cafe is situated on the no-name beach; it’s a lovely setting, but most importantly, the owner roasts her own beans. The coffee is a smooth blend.
You find Du lay cafe here on Google maps.
Sunset Beaches
The best beach for a stunning sunset setting is Farang / Charlies Beach. Not only is the setting stunning, but the beach vibe is amazing. Chill out music from Mong Bar, making it the perfect place to be.
Sunrise Beaches
Sivalai Beach and the beach with no name at Koh Mook Pier are the best. The setting of the name, No Beach, is spectacular, with the longtail and boat in the bay and the fishermen coming back with their daily catch.

Island Hopping from Koh Mook
Koh Mook is perfectly located between Koh Kradan and Koh Ngai, two stunning tropical islands. Koh Kradan, with its emerald green, super-clear waters, and Koh Ngai, with its clear blue waters. The perfect islands to spend the day on together as a joint or private tour with a longtail boat.
If opting to take a day trip on each island, a speedboat is an option, linking both islands back and forth.
Koh Mook is home to the spectacular Emerald Cave/Lagoon. This is a must-visit while on Koh Mook. It’s possible to visit Phuket, Krabi, and Koh Lanta, but it’s a long-day tour.
Kayaking from Farang Beach takes approximately 45 minutes; leaving early in the morning is recommended. Take a head torch to see the way through the cave.
Alternatively, book a half-day tour with the islands above, from 500 THB each, or a private longtail boat for 5 hours, from 1 to 5 people, for 3000 THB.
Not far from Emerald Cave is the Bird Nest Gypsies. This is not permitted to enter, but you can see from the boat where they live and collect the bird nests to sell to China, where it is a delegation.
