Koh Tao is a popular destination for scuba diving with many dive sites suitable for all levels of divers.

Why Koh Tao for diving? The rock and coral formations, along with the clear and warm water temperatures, make Koh Tao an ideal diving destination. The mild currents make it a great place for fun dives or beginner divers to learn.

Divers can encounter green turtles around Koh Tao throughout the year. Throughout the seasons, the deeper pinnacles are home to whale sharks, with April and May being the most likely times to spot them.

Scuba diving accommodations

If you’re looking to combine diving with a holiday, Koh Tao is the ideal place to book diving courses and diving trips. We offer accommodations at the Summer Guest House and Mama O Chai in Koh Tao for 1200 THB per night. Ask for more information.

When is the best time for scuba diving in Koh Tao?

Koh Tao is an all-year destination for scuba divers. You can always enjoy some good diving, regardless of the time of year. However, the main diving season here is similar to the main tourist season in Thailand.

Usually, the best conditions for diving around Koh Tao are from mid-January to October.

This is the time of the year when there is the least chance of rain and storms. The sea is mostly flat, the sun is shining, and the water is a beautiful blue.

For onwards travel around Southern Thailand to Phuket, Koh Samui, Khao Lak, and Koh Lanta, we can organise additional diving trips with our other dive centre partners.

IMPORTANT! – Flying After Diving

When planning onwards travel from Koh Tao, please note that PADI recommends a minimum interval of 18 hours after making multiple dives.

PADI Open Water Course

Begin your scuba diving journey in Koh Tao with our RAID Open Water course, the perfect introduction for beginners.

‍Over three days, immerse yourself in the fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive theory, equipment handling, and underwater communication, all in the stunning and safe waters of Koh Tao.

Progress through practical diving skills in our controlled pool sessions, ensuring comfort and confidence under water. Then, experience the thrill of four open water dives in Koh Tao’s crystal-clear seas, applying your skills amidst vibrant marine life.

Completing this course awards you the globally recognized RAID Open Water Diver certification, opening up a world of diving opportunities.

Mango Bay

Depth Range: 0-12m

Scuba divers have the option to explore the diverse marine life on both sides of the bay or opt for a thrilling ‘drop off’ entrance, a favourite among more experienced divers.

Shark Island

Depth Range: 4-20m

A diverse underwater terrain from gentle slopes to steep walls, rich in coral life, teeming with tropical fish, and a favoured spot for reef sharks and rays.

Sail Rock

Depth Range: 0-40m

A marvel in the Gulf of Thailand, celebrated for its breathtaking underwater topography and vibrant marine life. This magnificent granite pinnacle, rising dramatically from the seabed and peeking above the water’s surface, forms a haven for a diverse array of marine species.

Japanese Gardens

Depth Range: 0-15m

Nestled near Koh Nang Yuan is a diver’s paradise, especially suited for beginners. This site is renowned for its stunning array of hard corals, artistically arrayed like a meticulously designed garden.

White Rock

Depth Range: 10-20m

A favorite among Koh Tao divers, with its stunning coral formations and a rich array of marine life, including turtles, vibrant fish, and nocturnal creatures, perfect for all levels.

Twins

Depth Range: 10-18m

A charming dive site off Koh Tao, boasts gentle slopes with colorful coral gardens, teeming with tropical fish, moray eels, and occasional sightings of turtles and stingrays.

Southwest Pinnacle

Depth Range: 5-30m

A spectacular dive site renowned for its vibrant and diverse marine life. The site is also frequented by larger pelagic species, providing an exhilarating experience for those who dive here.

Chumphon Pinnacle

Depth Range: 12-40m

A jewel among Koh Tao’s dive sites and a must-visit for any diver in the area. Renowned for its impressive marine life, including large shoals of fish, it’s particularly famous for being one of the best spots to encounter the majestic Whale Shark.
