Krabi’s Scuba Diving Sites

Shark Point, King’s Cruiser, and Anemone Reef

The ship was transporting passengers from Phuket to the Phi Phi Islands when it sank on the 4th of May, Thankfully, there were no casualties. This dive is considered advanced due to its depth and often strong currents.

The propellers are located at a depth of 30 meters, and the most interesting areas are around the passenger decks, specifically between 18 and 24 meters. In the last few years, the wreck has started to break up, and entry is no longer possible. But it can still be quite a dramatic dive, especially if you haven’t dived in one before.

Nemone Reef is a pinnacle that comes up to 4–7 meters from the surface and slopes down to over 25 meters at the seabed. Anemones cover it, just like many other dive sites in the area. These, in turn, provide shelter and protection for many different types of anemonefish, shrimp, and porcelain crabs.

Shark Point, or Hin Musang—shark rock in Thai—is considered by many one of the best dive sites in the area and Thailand; Shark Point rarely leaves divers disappointed. One of the three pinnacles breaks the surface. At their deepest, all three pinnacles range between 20 and 30 meters. Many purple and pink soft corals and massive gorgonian fans compete for space on this incredibly healthy dive.

The Mayas

The Mayas rank among the most popular dive spots on Phi Phi Island. This is the place where you have the highest chance of diving with both turtles and sharks. The sight of the majestic limestone cliffs plunging into the water is simply breathtaking. There are few places in the world where you can dive directly beside 300m high cliffs. The four main dive sites in this area are Maya Corner, Maya Nui, Maya Bay, and Mushroom Rock.

In the Maya, you’ll discover shallow and sloping reefs, swim-throughs, dramatic walls, pinnacles, and coral fields brimming with an abundance of life. At the Maya sites, you can find creatures like parrotfish, pufferfish, butterflyfish, schools of snapper and fusiliers, cuttlefish, lobsters, squids, morays, golden trevallies, triggerfish, and many more. Additionally, it’s possible to spot a blacktip reef shark or a hawksbill turtle at these sites.

Phi Phi Wrecks

On this trip, we aim to visit either the King Cruiser wreck or the Kled Gaeow wreck on the first stop, depending on conditions. The second and third stops are around the beautiful reefs of the Phi Phi Islands and are suitable for all levels of diving. Here, you’ll find shallow reefs, dramatic walls, pinnacles, and coral fields with more life than you can imagine. Phi Phi Islands offer year-round diving that is both varied and spectacular. The dive sites around Phi Phi Islands offer some of the best diving in Thailand.

The Kled Gaeow wreck is located to the east of Viking Bay off Koh Phi Phi Ley. It was originally a Norwegian fishing boat, built in 1948. In 1956 it was commissioned into the Royal Thai Navy. After many years of service, in 2014 it became an artificial reef. It is 47.2m long and 7.7m wide, and now it has schools of pufferfish and fusiliers, along with many lionfish, scorpionfish, and nudibranchs!

In 1997, the King Cruiser wreck hit the submerged pinnacle of Anemone Reef and sank, saving everyone. It is approximately 85 meters long, with the top of the wreck sitting at about 18 meters and resting on sand at about 32 meters. There is a permanent descent line in place. Unfortunately, over time parts of the wreck have collapsed, so it is not safe to penetrate.
Please be aware that diving into these two wrecks requires an advanced certification or higher, as they are too deep for snorkeling. However, you have the option to combine this trip with an advanced or adventure course! (Adventure diver upgrade: +3800 THB)
