Samui Elephant Sanctuary was the first ethical sanctuary to open in Koh Samui, building a haven for these beautiful creatures.
Since its opening, the Samui Elephant Sanctuary has experienced rapid growth in popularity and expansion, which has enabled the sanctuary to rescue more elephants.
Samui Elephant Sanctuary’s growth has been possible because of charity funding from tourists and local companies donating funds and arranging charity days throughout Koh Samui.
The Samui Elephant Sanctuary is located in the natural surroundings of Chaweng and Bophut. The sanctuary includes a large swimming pool where the elephants can cool down and wash, as well as a wet mud area where they can play.
Samui Elephant Sanctuary offers a haven for elephants to walk around freely, eat, cool down, and play. There are no chains!
There are six elephants, the youngest 49 years old and the oldest 62 years old.
Each elephant has a unique working history. However, until they were older, the tourism industry used them for elephant riding, logging, and circus acts before sending them out for elephant trekking.
The elephants can find peace and live the rest of their lives free!

A 50% deposit is required to secure a booking, with the remaining balance payable in cash on the day. Samui Explorer is an agent for Samui Elephant Sanctuary; therefore, the pricing and programs are the same.
NB: We are an agent only for Samui Elephant Sanctuary; we do not take bookings or send customers to a different sanctuary.
The half day programs offer a memorable experience spending time with our beautiful herd in a natural setting. To be in the presence of elephants is breathtaking and we are sure that your day at Samui Elephant Sanctuary will leave you deeply moved.

- Welcome and introduction video on who we are and why elephants need to be protected.
Prepare food for the elephants and then meet and feed the elephants. This is a magical experience and the elephants of course love their basket of treats. - Walk with the elephants and observe them as they express their natural behaviours, such as foraging for food, bathing in the pool, and playing in the mud pit.
- Enjoy a delicious vegetarian Thai buffet with time to rest, relax and take in the tranquility of our sanctuary.
- Complimentary filtered water, coffee and tea.
- Transfer back to your hotel.
